Discover the Vibrant World of New England Butterflies

From the moment the first Mourning Cloak butterflies emerge from hibernation in early March, the New England landscape is graced with the silent, colorful flight of these incredible insects. By late spring, they are joined by tiny Spring Azures, Cabbage Whites, and majestic Black Swallowtails, with dozens more species appearing as the summer unfolds.

The Friends of the Parker River National Wildlife Refuge are delighted to invite you to a virtual presentation, “New England Butterflies,” as part of our popular CELEBRATING NATURE series with naturalist Bill Gette.

Join us for a journey through the fields and forests of New England to celebrate its diverse butterfly population. During this engaging PowerPoint presentation, Bill Gette will share his stunning, colorful photographs of 40 local butterfly species. You will learn about their fascinating life histories, specific flight months, and the essential host plants that support them. The talk will conclude with a special focus on one of our most renowned and remarkable butterflies, the Monarch, delving into its amazing life and incredible migratory feats.
