Free Event: “New England’s Shorebirds” with Bill Gette

Did you know that White-rumped Sandpipers nest north of the Arctic Circle, migrate through our area in the spring and fall, and winter in southern South America? Did you know that female phalaropes have more colorful plumage than do their male counterparts?

During this virtual lecture Bill will discuss these and many other interesting facts and show photographs of the shorebird species that regularly occur in New England.

He will review the many aids to shorebird identification, discuss dates of occurrence, and provide information about where you can observe these special birds. Bill will show his images of shorebirds he photographed in New England as well as photographs of shorebirds he took on their far north breeding grounds.

Bill is the former President of FPRNWR and Director of Mass Audubon’s Joppa Flats Education Center, and continues to lead birding adventures at the Refuge.
