Stargazing: Shooting Stars

August 12, 2019 @ 8:00 pm - 10:00 pm

Want to wish upon a shooting star? During the annual Perseoid meteor shower, up to 50 shooting stars can be seen in an hour. Join refuge staff and North Shore Amateur Astronomy Club to appreciate dark skies during the most awaited meteor shower of the year. The dark skies of Plum Island will provide great viewing for this event. Volunteers from the Astronomy Club will provide telescopes and information for close up views of Saturn, Junipter and the Moon. We will also discuss the importance of dark skies for both astronomy and birds that rely on stars to find their way. This is a drop-in program, NO preregistration. Folks attending the program will be allowed admittance through the refuge entrance station until 9:00 pm. Dress appropriately for night temperatures and biting insects.
